What is a barefoot shoe?
Barefoot footwear, also known as minimalist footwear, is based on a simple idea: giving your feet more freedom inside your shoes.
You can recognise a barefoot shoe by three key features:
- A wide toe box: giving your toes room to spread and move naturally.
- A thin, flexible sole: one that moves with your foot and lets you feel every step.
- Zero drop: the heel and forefoot are at the same height.
In other words, rather than forcing your foot to fit the shape of the shoe, the shoe is designed to adapt fully to your foot’s natural movements.
What if our feet could rediscover their freedom?
For millennia, humans walked barefoot on earth, rocks and grass. Our feet evolved to do just that. Then came padded shoes, wedge heels and maximum cushioning: our feet forgot how to walk...
Barefoot shoes are designed to let your feet move more naturally, with more room for your toes, a thin, flexible sole and zero drop.
More freedom and feel with every step.
Our vision of barefoot trainers
Vegan suede — An animal-free material
At Zèta, we do not choose a material for what it appears to be, but for what it can achieve.
Our vegan suede is a great alternative. It retains its soft, textured finish without any animal origin, and stays durable over time.
Animal-free yet technical suede
Our vegan suede delivers everything you expect: a velvety finish, a matte texture, and a pleasant feel. It contains no animal fibres, yet remains supple, durable, and comfortable to wear.
Designed for everyday wear, it maintains its shape even after being worn many times. It withstands friction, cleans easily, and keeps its natural look without stretching out.
A reliable material for everyday wear
Our vegan suede is used on several Zèta models. It structures the silhouette, adds depth to colours, and stands the test of time.
Manufacturing workshop - Vizela, Portugal
We are proud to collaborate with partners who share our values and are just as committed as we are, both environmentally and socially.
At the age of 20, Albano assembled his very first pair of shoes in the back of a garage.
His first pairs of shoes were then sold in a few local shops and after Sunday mass. The shoes proved popular thanks to their quality and were quickly sold all across northern Portugal.
For over thirty years, nearly 150 artisans have been keeping Portuguese craftsmanship alive with meticulous attention to detail and finishes. They joined our journey in 2022, and over the months we have forged very strong relationships.

MORE FREEDOM: a flexible sole that follows your foot’s natural movements.
MORE GROUND FEEL : a thin sole keeps you closer to the ground, so you can feel every step more clearly.
MORE ROOM: a wider toe box lets your toes move naturally.
MORE STABILITY: the heel and forefoot stay at the same height for a more natural stance.
