With its running-inspired look, the Barefoot Root trainer is designed to move naturally with your foot.
Its zero-drop design, wide toe box and flexible sole give you a freer feel with every step.
Materials
Each component is carefully selected for its durability and place of production.
- Upper: plant-based material made from pesticide-free cereals (73% bio-based PU + 27% recycled polyester), breathable recycled plastic mesh, vegan suede (50% PU + 50% nylon)
- Inner lining: recycled cotton (80%) + PES (20%)
- Laces: recycled cotton (100%)
- Removable insole: thin, made from recycled foam (100%)
- Outsole: flexible, made from recycled synthetic rubber (40%)
- Glue: vegan, made from resin
- Label: recycled polyester
- Cardboard box: recycled & flyer made from recycled paper (30%)

What is a barefoot shoe?
Barefoot footwear, also known as minimalist footwear, is based on a simple idea: giving your feet more freedom inside your shoes.
You can recognise a barefoot shoe by three key features:
- A wide toe box: giving your toes room to spread and move naturally.
- A thin, flexible sole: one that moves with your foot and lets you feel every step.
- Zero drop: the heel and forefoot are at the same height.
In other words, rather than forcing your foot to fit the shape of the shoe, the shoe is designed to adapt fully to your foot’s natural movements.

Vegan suede — An animal-free material
At Zèta, we do not choose a material for what it appears to be, but for what it can achieve.
Our vegan suede is a great alternative. It retains its soft, textured finish without any animal origin, and stays durable over time.
Animal-free yet technical suede
Our vegan suede delivers everything you expect: a velvety finish, a matte texture, and a pleasant feel. It contains no animal fibres, yet remains supple, durable, and comfortable to wear.
Designed for everyday wear, it maintains its shape even after being worn many times. It withstands friction, cleans easily, and keeps its natural look without stretching out.
A reliable material for everyday wear
Our vegan suede is used on several Zèta models. It structures the silhouette, adds depth to colours, and stands the test of time.

At the age of 20, Albano assembled his very first pair of shoes in the back of a garage.
His first pairs of shoes were then sold in a few local shops and after Sunday mass. The shoes proved popular thanks to their quality and were quickly sold all across northern Portugal.
For over thirty years, nearly 150 artisans have been keeping Portuguese craftsmanship alive with meticulous attention to detail and finishes. They joined our journey in 2022, and over the months we have forged very strong relationships.
