Some shoes have the power to transport us instantly. That is the case of the boat loafer, a perfect balance between the elegance of the loafer and the relaxed spirit of the seaside. At Zèta, we have reinterpreted this icon to create a comfortable, robust and recycled shoe.

An invention born for adventure

The story of the boat loafer begins in 1935, on the slippery decks of sailing boats. Paul Sperry, a passionate sailor, drew inspiration from the pads on his dog's paws to create the first non-slip sole. Very quickly, the shoe took on its definitive hallmarks: a 360° lace for total hold and a sole that does not mark the decks. Moving from the open sea to American universities in the 1960s, it became the universal symbol of effortless elegance.

The nautical heritage reinvented by Zèta

At Zèta, we honour this heritage with a sustainable vision. Our women's boat shoes retain the silhouette and the platform stitching, but replace traditional leather with olive. Once the oil has been extracted, the stones and skins are collected, dried and then ground to be transformed into a technical material known as Oleatex.

They are designed in Bordeaux and handcrafted in Portugal, in a workshop with artisanal expertise.

Comfort designed for walking

The real challenge of a women's boat loafer is to be as flexible as a trainer. We worked on the structure to provide natural support from the very first steps. The sole, lightweight and non-slip, cushions every step and ensures a perfect posture.

Quality is at the heart of our approach and every model is tested at the CTCP in Portugal, the Footwear Technology Centre. We check the resistance of the laces, the flexibility of the sole and the colour fastness. Our vegan loafers are designed to accompany you through many summers to come!

The boat loafer has today moved beyond the seaside to become an essential city piece. To adopt a "coastal chic" style, opt for wide white linen trousers paired with an oversized shirt. If you prefer a minimalist look, go for straight-cut jeans cropped just above the ankle with a structured blazer.
