If we look a little closer at the situation of animal leather, it is responsible for up to 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Beyond environmental issues, animal leather presents health and ethical issues.
  • More than 16 million people are exposed to the danger of tanning

  • Every year, 1 billion animals are killed for their skins.

  • It takes almost 20 times more energy resources to obtain 1KG of leather.

The importance of consuming less but better. To respond to this observation and deal with this polluting industry, the textile industry is developing sustainable materials with the aim of preserving the environment, which was difficult to imagine even five years ago.

The innovation of vegetable leather: vegan shoes.

Lately, many ecological innovations have been appearing.

But what is “vegan leather”?

“Vegan” leather uses vegan materials that are not of animal origin and are not tested on animals. It is made from recycled synthetic materials such as clarino or lorica. There are other compositions such as the integration of vegetal with Grape Leather, Pinatex (pineapple leather), Muskin (made in from mushrooms), or even apple leather.

Why choose vegan shoes?

Beyond the ethical aspect, we can observe a real ecological impact. Leather production is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gases. Favoring vegan shoes made from pineapple, for example, is part of a zero-waste approach since the entire fruit is used. This way, you avoid classic shoes produced with harmful components such as PVC, a plastic that is very harmful to the environment and health.

Zeta: Vegan Shoes made from Grape.

Since September, Zèta has been making recycled sneakers from waste from wine production (72% grape 28% water-based PU).

In total, a pair of recycled Alpha sneakers can recycle 3kg of waste.
